Couples humor test: what makes the two of you laugh?
Your Kind of Funny, our couples humor test, sorts humor into five styles: Playful Teasing, Wordplay, Absurd & Random, Everyday Comedy, and Laughing at Myself. You both answer on one phone and guess each other’s style. Then comes a short read about the two of you: where your jokes land, and where one of you quietly doesn’t laugh.

What’s in the test
- In the group chat, what always cracks you up? Someone's line handed back to them, fondly · A pun dropped where nobody expected one · Yesterday retold beat for beat · A fail confessed before anyone else notices it
- Which joke lands hardest for you? A perfect play on words · Something so random it makes no sense · One that's basically a scene from my week · One where they're the punchline themselves
- What makes you laugh till it hurts? Total nonsense out of nowhere · Someone describing everyday life exactly right · Us teasing each other till nobody can breathe · A word landing in two meanings at once
- The thing that surfaces again on its own, days later: Something funny you noticed without meaning to · One of your own fails you still laugh at · The running joke about someone you love · A scene too weird to explain
- You trip in front of everyone. First reflex? Joke about yourself before anyone can · Wait for a friend's teasing and tease right back · Call it a fall from grace · Lie there a moment like it was planned
- Someone close writes the scary thing turned out fine. First thing that comes to mind? A fond tease, half-written in my head · A completely unrelated meme · One word from the message, already begging to be misread · How badly I panicked over it
- Family dinner comedy is… Playful digs across the table · Retelling the week's funniest moments · One pun that derails the whole meal · Me handing them the story about myself
- Your humor runs on… Spotting double meanings · Noticing what everyone else missed · Wandering off into something surreal · Turning my own mess into the joke
- The photo caption that gets you every time: A pun, obviously — the worse the better · Someone owning the mess they're in · A warm dig at what they were doing · One line that nails exactly what happened
- Pick a meme folder: Surreal nonsense · "This is so me" fails · Ones that tease my people · Too-real everyday scenes
- Making someone close laugh, you go for… A gentle tease · A quick pun · Pure chaos · A perfect retelling
- The funniest message someone close can send is… A clever twist on their own words · A cursed image with no context · A play-by-play of their ordinary day · Them admitting they did it again
- Your inner comedian is… A generator of beautiful nonsense · A camera pointed at daily life · A nudge in the ribs, always fond · A dictionary with a sense of mischief
- An awkward moment turns funny when… The detail everyone missed comes out · It's told by the person it happened to · It becomes the joke we poke each other with · An extra bit that never happened gets added
- Someone close jokes about your playlist. Top it with an even worse joke about it · Serve a comeback about theirs · Twist their line into a better one · Answer with a song that fits nothing
How to take it together
- 1. Sit down together with one phone. Take turns answering the “Your Kind of Funny” questions. Answer for yourself, and don’t peek.
- 2. Before the results, each of you guesses: which type will your partner get? Pick it on screen, then see who was right.
- 3. Then comes a short read about the two of you: what each type is like, and what happens when these two types share a life.
The types, in short
Playful Teasing
You tease the people you love most
Affection comes out of you sideways. The people you are closest to get the nicknames, the callbacks, the running joke that has been running for two years. None of it is aimed at a soft spot. Teasing someone is how you say you are one of my people and I am paying attention.
Wordplay
The right word at the right angle
Language is a toy in your hands. A word that means two things at once, a name that rhymes with the disaster it caused, a sentence turned exactly one degree, you notice the seam and you pull it. Half the pleasure is landing it before the moment closes.
Absurd & Random
Funny because it makes no sense
Nonsense is your shortcut to joy. A sentence that could not possibly be true, a voice for the cat, an entire fake documentary about the fridge, the less it explains itself the better it works. Sense is optional; commitment is not. You go all the way in and stay there.
Everyday Comedy
Ordinary life, retold exactly right
Life hands out material all day and you are the one taking notes. The way the neighbour parks, the sentence a teacher repeats in every class, the four words a shop assistant says to everybody. You file it and hand it back later with the details in the right order. Nothing invented, only aimed.
Laughing at Myself
Your own fails make the best stories
Something goes sideways and part of you is already writing the version you will tell at dinner. You get there first, out loud, before anyone else can, not because you think little of yourself, but because a story you own is lighter to carry than one you are hiding.
Questions people ask
Does a different sense of humor mean we’re a bad match?
No. Lots of happy couples laugh at different things. Your pair profile shows how to enjoy the other’s humor, and which jokes to skip.
Is there a right answer?
No. Pick what’s closest to what you’d really do, not what sounds funniest.
What if one of us never laughs at the other’s jokes?
Then your pair profile is the place to start. It names which joke styles land with whom, so you can stop testing the same bit and try another.
